You may have noticed that there's now a "preferences" link next to the feedback link in the navigation bar. Have a look! You can set a preference for each tag. To start with, the effect of your tag preferences is visible in the recommended releases in the nav bar as well as the charts page in "recommendation mode": All releases which feature "hated" tags are hidden. Let me know what you think about this approach! I'm going to roll this out to other places as well, for example the global timeline and the calendar views. The idea is that you will see less unwanted stuff. And new visitors will receive a set of preferences which make sure that they're mostly seeing prog rock/metal/jazz.

Now you can filter for prog status as well, and these preferences are applied for recommendation lists as well as the timelines.

Calender views are filtered as well.

How much of an impact does moving things away from neutral have? Always reluctant to say I hate a particular genre even if 9 time out of 10 its not my thing as every now and then there is a gem!

^ Currently the filter just hides anything that is set to "hide". In the future I might implement boosting/deboosting, where a "meh/like/love" settings would influence the ranking. Need to give it some more thought :-)

All in good time! It's a very good idea. Similarly was wondering if those filters, or ratings data, were impacting the recommended releases / discovery mode, know you were thinking about doing something like that

^ Yes, the recommendations are already filtered, but you’ll need to reload the browser window after you have adjusted the preferences to see the effect. |
