Privacy Policy

We take your privacy seriously and collect as little personal information as possible. The only personal detail we ask you for is your email address.

Alongside that, our server records the IP address your requests come from while you are signed in, as a coarse history of when each account was active and from where. We use it to keep the site running and to deal with abuse — in particular to recognise when somebody who has been removed from the site comes back under a new account. It is never used to build a profile of you, never shared with anyone, and only ever looked at by the site owner. We keep it for twelve months, after which the address is deleted and only the record that your account was active remains.

Your email address is used solely for administrative purposes, such as sending login codes, resetting your password and responding to feedback. We will never sell, rent or otherwise share it with any third party. Should we ever introduce features that make further use of your email address — for example messaging, chat or forum notifications — they will be strictly opt-in, and enabled only with your explicit consent.

Please be aware that most of the information you add to or edit in our music database is, by design, made publicly available, as building an open catalogue is the very purpose of this website.

We use cookies and similar technologies only as needed to provide core functionality such as keeping you signed in. In addition, third-party content we embed from services like Spotify, Bandcamp and YouTube may set their own tracking cookies, which are governed by those providers' respective privacy policies.

The Enhance ProgArchives browser extension

Enhance ProgArchives is our unofficial browser extension for ProgArchives.com. It is not made by or affiliated with ProgArchives. Most of what it does happens entirely in your browser: the forum's dark mode, and the theme you pick for it, which is kept in your browser alone and never sent anywhere.

Its ratings sync keeps the star ratings you give on ProgArchives and your AwesomeProg ratings in step, and works only once you sign in to your AwesomeProg account in the extension. For that it handles the following, and nothing else:

  • Your AwesomeProg user name or email address, sent to our server once when you sign in, so that we can email you a login code.
  • Your AwesomeProg session, kept in the extension's storage in your browser so that you stay signed in. It appears in your profile among your signed-in devices, where you can end it, and signing out of the extension ends it too.
  • The ids and titles of the ProgArchives albums on the pages you visit there, and the star ratings you gave them, sent to our server to look up your AwesomeProg ratings of the same releases and to save the ones you choose to sync. These become your ratings on AwesomeProg like any other, and you can change or remove them in the same way.
  • A rating you have asked it to copy to ProgArchives, kept in your browser only until ProgArchives has saved it.

On forum threads, the extension also asks our server for the AwesomeProg rankings that posts link to, so that it can preview them. Those requests carry nothing about you.

The extension collects no browsing history, runs only on ProgArchives.com, and talks to no server but ours. Nothing it handles is sold or shared with anyone, and deleting your AwesomeProg account removes it along with everything else. To remove what is kept in your browser, sign out of the extension or uninstall it.
