What's New?

Recent changes and new features, newest first.

    • Top Overall and Top Artists rankings can be shared as links that unfurl as their charts.
    • Records tagged symphonic and prog rock now count as Symphonic Prog.
    • Choose which tags your genre badge leaves out, and cap how long badges get under Preferences → Genre Badges; styles and modifiers are now sorted into nine groups.
    • Recommendations draw on all your ratings, not just recent releases.
    • Release tags are picked in ranked order (1st, 2nd, …) and can be reordered by drag and drop; “slightly” and “not at all” sit beside the ranks.
    • Relevance, cover art and anticipation are sliders on the genres action, the Main Tags group is gone, and a plain genre is greyed out where a prog one fits.
    • Familiarity is set on a slider, also above the tracks on a release's tracks tab.
    • Timeline rows take their release's cover colours throughout, the table stays inside its column, sliders keep the site's colours, and hover colours no longer stick on touch screens.
    • Your settings say who can send you private messages, and the weekly lists name a release's type when it is not an LP.
    • Tagging a release is one click per tag, with “slightly” and “not” beside it; the tags now sit under Genres and the tags editor is gone.
    • Release dialogs, rows, timelines and sidebars take their cover's link colours.
    • Private messages between members, with an inbox, a header envelope and a switch in your settings.
    • The tracklist shows each track's rating spread as a small chart, and long titles truncate on phones.
    • A cover too grey to name a colour now gives its page a grey theme, and section rules take the cover's hue.
    • Badges now name a genre only when enough trusted members hold it.
    • The ratings export and ProgArchives sync count stars by tier, so a 78 is three stars everywhere.
    • The header is now a saturated band of the theme's colour, in light and dark.
    • Preferences opens on Appearance, and every choice lists its default first.
    • Links in lists and page headers share the theme's link colour; only the main link of a row stands out.
    • Tables no longer tint rows under the pointer or stripe them.
    • A video page glows with its release's cover and takes its colours.
    • A release page's cover opens the external links.
    • Info ribbons fold behind their chevron on phones and in the sidebar.
    • A play of a release out within a fortnight shows its full release date, in the signature too.
    • Badges no longer repeat Avant or Experimental on genres that already imply it.
    • Signing in with a password or as a guest from the sign-in page now takes you on to your profile.
    • Preferences has an Appearance tab: pick light, dark or auto, a colour theme (Prog, Classic Blue, Monochrome or Advent of Prog), and switch cover colours and glow effects off.
    • Badges say at most two words around the genre, and leave out tags only a few members gave.
    • Image exports and share cards come in the new look, dark or light.
    • A new retro-futurist look: pages take their accent from the cover art, covers are drawn as sleeves with a record sliding out, the release header is a gatefold, ratings show as a level meter, and the sidebar's release rows fold their info behind a chevron.
    • Badges now lead with a named sub-genre (e.g. Symphonic Prog) over its family's plain genre.
    • The manifesto now lives in the wiki's Key Concepts.
    • Shorter intros, hints and help texts across the site.
    • Hot takes now show your subjective and objective ratings as editable sliders next to the community rating; a hot take differs from either by 15 or more.
    • Subjective-only ratings now count on badges and in your collection list, at half weight on the community badge.
    • In the genre chooser, a family's catch-all now reads just the family name (“Folk”) and comes first.
    • New genres in the release editor: Free Improvisation, Chamber Folk, Chamber Pop and Chamber Jazz.
    • New Export tab in your profile: download your rated releases as CSV, on the rating scale you pick.
    • Releases and artists whose contributor left no longer say “added by User #0”.
    • Your rating now stands for your judgement of the music; add an optional subjective rating for personal taste under the slider. Old personal-taste ratings were converted.
    • More style words (Heavy, Symphonic, Technical, Gothic, …) now qualify the genre on badges and can be ranked on the Genres tab, e.g. “Heavy Prog Rock”. Full badges show up to three.
    • Tidier Artists A-Z tables: country as a flag, info ribbon beside the name, wider Prog Status band.
    • Shared country ranking images now read “YourName's Best Releases from Italy” and glow in the country's flag colours.
    • Artist Prog Status bands now share one 1960–today timeline. Artists A-Z gets a country column and each artist's button row.
    • The More Ratings tab now uses tier-coloured sliders. The main slider gained tier tick marks, and F/D grades save at their tier's centre.
    • You now always pick a genre, never just a family; families are worked out for you. The leaderboard's “Main genre” points are now “Genre” points.
    • Plain sub-genres now read with the release's prog status (“Prog Rock”). Genres that contradict your scores show greyed out with a reason.
    • Plays on the timeline now show how they were played, e.g. “Complete · At Home · Vinyl”.
    • Fixed a large blurred cover with rings covering the home page on iPad.
    • Genre and tag icons now appear in a row once you've set how well you know the item.
    • Ratings are now set on a tier-coloured slider by default; “Pick from a table instead” switches back.
    • A plain sub-genre is no longer listed next to its own family twice on the Tags tab and tag map.
    • The ratings import now reads RateYourMusic CSV exports. Imported RYM, ProgArchives and Gnosis ratings land mid-tier (five stars → 95).
    • The privacy policy now covers the Enhance ProgArchives extension.
    • Redesigned ProgArchives forum signature: edge-to-edge covers, captions under each, and a light or dark forum theme.
    • Countries are now grouped by continent: the Countries page links to seven continent pages.
    • Palestine can now be picked as an artist's country, and its flag shows up everywhere country flags do.
    • The Musical Coordinates overview can now show your own favourites as reference records.
    • Releases can now link to Apple Music, and a play can be logged as from it.
    • The derived readings on the Musical Coordinates chart were recalibrated against the community's values, and the explanations rewritten.
    • Records on the Musical Coordinates pages now also need a community score of 60+ on progressiveness, avant-garde or experimental.
    • Fixed the site sometimes showing stale data from the API.
    • Exported ranking captions no longer repeat the member's name.
    • Fixed a scale sometimes being set when you touch a coasting page to stop it.
    • The Musical Coordinates pages now show the community's values instead of one curator's, and Compare opens on them.
    • Exported ranking images now use the front page's wording (“Best Releases of 2026”), name the member, and wrap long titles.
    • Seven genre names now read correctly on badges and chart bars, e.g. IDM, Musique Concrète, Hip-Hop.
    • Proto, Neo, Retro, Classic, Modern, Post, Alternative, Art, Chamber, Extreme and Space can no longer be picked as modifiers; existing ones stay until removed, and implied ones read “Implied by Art Rock”.
    • Swiping past a coordinate, prog status or criterion scale on a phone no longer sets it by accident.
    • The Genres tab is shorter, with explanations folded behind links. Genre modifiers moved there from the tags editors.
    • New Subject/Action switch on the leaderboard splits bars by what members did: additions, plays, tags, ratings, writing.
    • Genre buttons now dim repeated modifiers so the genre name stands out.
    • The old Proto, Neo, Retro, Classic and Modern tags are retired: they become phases, or Neo-Prog, keeping your rating. This runs in the background.

    • A release's info ribbon icons now follow the order you work through a record.
