Hi! I just added the Iowa progressive rock guitarist Walter Waltham to the database due to his excellent, entirely instrumental debut, but I couldn't add the album, i.e., link to his Bandcamp page. Actually, this is a problem I usually saw in the early days of this (new) site, and unfortunately here is it again: "Internal Server Error(s) while executing query." Bandcamp link to Walter Waltham's "Holy Shade of White:" https://walterwaltham.bandcamp.com/album/holy-shade-of-white

Hi! This is because that bandcamp page does not exist (anymore). If you open it in a browser, you'll see the bandcamp error message.

Wow! I'm still listening to the stream of Waltham's album right now, and now when I opened it in a new window, there is just an info: "Sorry, that something isn’t here." Pity. His debut album is indeed a splendid instrumental progressive rock release, featuring an 18-minute epic track.

Too bad you did not rate the release - nobody will listen to it :-)

Probably, this talented guitarist will re-launch his debut album on Bandcamp, having been convinced that some changes were necessary in order to achieve the best release. Maybe he was able to trace a net-label that will do the "official" release of his only album so far. That also happens sometimes. In any case, I hope it gets released. Because, believe me, Mike, this is a great-sounding non-metal & non-retro guitar instrumental progressive rock album, despite the fact that most instrumental guitar albums are dull.

Sure. The first step in communicating that to the world, at least on this website, is to rate the release. The second is to write a blurb, just a few sentences expressing your thoughts about the album. As long as you're just adding obscure artists and releases without any added information, it's just noise which nobody will pay any attention to.

Oh, I'm afraid I will never write a blurb nor rate anything here because I'm, say, lazy, and I don't do anything on the Internet on demand aside from following the prescribed basic rules of a site. I mean, if you made it mandatory to write a blurb, I would never come here again, capisci? But Mike, don't worry about attention given to my additions. "They" will take notice if the acts I added to the database of your awesome site are good (and they are very good in most cases!), just as "they" have taken notice of many other bands that were virtually unknown prior to my suggestions for a well-known prog site, only using their Bandcamp links, like Jack O'The Clock, PoIL, iamthemorning, Via Obscura, Cheeto's Magazine, Ultra Zook, Ukandanz, and so on.

Well, do as you please. I'm just saying that most people will be ignoring your additions and focus on those that stand out. It's not only lazy, but also quite arrogant and narcissistic to expect people to listen to these releases just because the awesome Svetonio added them. But, whatever floats your boat! :-)

"Everyone should listen to this album!" "Why?" "I'M NOT TELLING YOU!"

@bartyMJ LOL! Well, to be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less if you were or are ever going to listen to any album I added. I just add the bands to the database like I did since 2014, when this side was adequately called Progfreak. I'm enjoying adding the prog and "related" bands and solo artists to the database. But hey, if you insist, check out my recent addition, Circe Link and Christian Nesmith from California. They released recently a magnificent album titled ARCANA, of which I, for one, think that is the progressive rock album of the year so far!

^ I think the sentiment is mutual here, at least for me. If you can't be bothered to rate the releases, then I can't be bothered to listen to them. The mission of this website is to guide people towards awesome prog albums, and you are not really doing that, since your additions do not show up on any chart or list. It is this stubborn withholding of information that annoys me.

Hey Mike, please watch their official video, which features The Tower, the opening track from the aforementioned album ARCANA. For my part, it has been a while since I've seen such fantastic animated prog video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrU3axf1SzI

^ I've already added it to the track. Good stuff! But remember, I would never have listened to the release just because you added it. There's simply too many releases to listen to in total, so when you come across a release that really stands out, you are helping the community a lot if you write a blurb or at least assign a rating on the "Awesome" level. Besides, rating the release and creating a playlist entry would populate your forum avatar :-) |
