Topic: New Status Values ... useful?

I introduced more status values today:

  • Noted: For releases you have listened to and do not want to interact with further, but you do not dislike them either.
  • Like: First I called this "extended collection", but that's way too long. Instead I call it "like", but it is intended for releases which you do not own (as in your "core" collection), but you really like them and listen to them frequently, which could be seen as them being part of your extended collection.

I also renamed the "access" status to "unsure", and on your login landing page (now accessible under Account/Dashboard) you can see the releases in that status and conveniently move them into other statuses.

What do you think? These two are useful for me, I was getting hundreds of releases in the "access" status which I neither wanted to "hide" nor make them part of my collection.

up to now I consequently used the 'Access' status for all the albums that I had finished to work on, the switch to 'Unsure' doesn't make sense for me personally

^ I see ... don't worry, I'll fix it. I'll properly introduce a new status "unsure" and then bulk-move my "access" releases there. I'll then rename the former "access" status to "noted", which makes more sense. Still looking for a better name ... maybe a new status "evaluated" would make the most sense for power-users that listen to many releases and need a way to mark releases as having been properly checked out.

^yep, to provide and switch to an 'Evaluated' status would be ideal of course ... apart from that, should I stay true to my procedure and use the 'Unsure' status further on?

^ No, I've just installed an update and moved your releases from "access" to "evaluated". So from now on you can just use "Evaluated" :-)

simply perfect :-)

Glad that you like it, I'll try to add more features to improve usability for power-users like us (who listen to a lot of releases). They'll all be on the new dashboard page ...

BTW: I'll adapt the manage releases page to the new statuses as well, probably tomorrow.

do you have any intention to make it possible to combine two status? At least for 'Evaluated' and 'Liked' it might be suitable ...

No, all the status values beyond 'evaluated' essentially imply that you have evaluated the release enough to decide what to do with it. Of course there can be special cases (e.g. you buy a release without having ever listened to it). But we also have the familiarity levels to help find those. There'll be (at least) two widgets on the dashboard:

  • list releases where you might want to change the status (currently implemented)
  • list releases you might want to listen to next (a complex query covering various combinations of status and familiarity)

I prefer "access" to "unsure". With Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube, etc... we pretty much have access to just about everything, aside from the artists that choose to not share their music on streaming sites.

^ But since as you say, we have access to almost everything, the status is meaningless by itself. I'll probably scrap the "unsure" status, it's not as useful as I thought. The situation I created "unsure" for is actually better represented by "explore". It implies "unsure" (you are exploring a release, meaning that you haven't formed an opinion yet).

Think of "explore", "evaluated" and "liked" as replacements for the old "access" status.
