Currently the UI is unfortunately a little inconsistent - will fix it soon. There is a new tab with a note symbol where you can set prog status and genre. Let me know if you have any comments or questions! The goal is to simplify entering “composite” prog genres like Neo-Prog or Avant-Prog, while preserving the concept of modifier tags.

I've just released a new version of the genre tab that should make genre assignment easier. Just use the prog slider to set a reasonable prog level, then add the genre with the button below. Depending on the prog level, different genres will be offered (e.g. Neo-Prog will not be available for low prog level values).

Let me know if you have any problems or questions about the genre editor.

More improvements today. The genre tab now also includes the modifies (Space, Heavy etc.) so you can set most composite genre labels from that tab without ever going to the "old" tab containing all the tags. How is this working for you? I'm also retiring the old phase modifiers like Classic, Modern, Retro, Neo and Post - they will be automatically replaced with the new genre phases, or converted to the few new specialised genres which contain the phase, like Neo-Prog and Post Rock.

One reason for all these phase-related changes is that the phase should be tied to one particular genre. In the past you could assign the "Neo" phase separately, together with the Rock base genre that would yield Neo Rock, together with the Prog status the result was "Prog Neo Rock", which the server code re-labeled to "Neo Prog Rock". Then if you added another genre, like Pop, that would end up as "Neo Prog Rock/Pop". At that point it's not so obvious what the "Neo" refers to - Rock or Pop?

Now the Neo modifier is gone, replaced by a proper "Neo-Prog" genre, and for other cases where a classic genre was revisited at a later point there is the Revival phase which you can optionally include when you assign a genre.
