This forum is currently as basic as it possibly could be. Obviously it needs more features, but which are most important? I’ll add more features over the coming weeks and months, so please let me know what you need most. Together we can make it awesome! :)

Very basic indeed, as you like things

A feature to edit and delete posts would be nice, like you have for the comments on albums here

Yes, of course. Also a read/unread distinction and view counts for topics.

Also probably an optional, toggleable email notification for threads.

An option to embed videos from the progarchives, but give us more options than Youtube - now is a great time, actually, to allow us to embed invidious vidoes instead; invidious is a privacy-oriented frontend that proxies youtube videos - since youtube has gone total greedy corporate, copyright-obsessed machine on us and basically blocks all Topic videos from playing from an embed, invidious should be able to play

Give us the the ability to embed Bandcamp songs, too. I'd skip out on Spotify and Apple Music, since they only play previews and the volume is turned all the way up (it's too loud). Also give soundcloud embedding abilities, too. Maybe even vimeo and dailymotion, in case they ever pick up steam.

like the progarchives Here's an embed link from one of the invidious instances, if you think you'll be able to implement this feature: https://iteroni.com/embed/AkrZhQLD92Y

Look at what youtube did my recent progarchives post :( https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=130871&PID=6076983&#6076983

Actually forget that last point... the videos were blocked because I had certain scripts disabled on my web browser that blocked the videos from playing... I'd delete the comment if I could lol

In your browser it would most likely look fine.

Cross-site cookies. It's because I have cross-site cookies disabled.

^ YouTube videos can be embedded in a non-cookie mode, but that then prevents users logged into YouTube from interacting with them right from the embedded iframe, e.g. you cannot add them to "watch later" directly from the iframe.

Yes, embedding would be a great feature to offer, but it also opens up the possibility of users embedding illegal content which in turn would necessitate moderation. Let me think about it :)

Enjoying really. ;)

^ Sure, but what exactly makes a forum enjoyable, apart from the people who frequent it? Which features are most important?

Kinda tough call to increase active members so soon ... but what if we discuss non-prog music or classical one as well as prog? My tuppenny ...

Of course we can add forum categories and hidden member/collab areas :)

Some suggestions:

  • Catch up / Mark all as read button
  • Eventually it probably will need paging
  • ...especially because the "Create Topic" button is at the bottom. I can see why you'd do that - to discourage redundant posts - but as things grow, you're not going to be able to do that anyway.
  • Unfortunately you'll probably need a "report this post to admin" button. Let's hope that day is a long way away.

^ Agreed on all points! Let's just say that I'm a lazy developer and it wasn't clear whether the forum was going to be used. The more it is used, the more I'll address these points :-)
