I introduced this distinction many years ago. I still like it, and for some albums I think it is helpful to indicate "how" they are progressive, but in most cases it just over-complicates things. What do you think? Should we leave that concept behind, should we keep it, or change it somehow?

What do you mean by progressive approach? And while we're drawing distinctions, it might be worth considering progressive artists - someone like, say, David Bowie, who I think we can say as an artist pushed the boundaries of music, even if little of his music itself is progressive.

Good point - we explain it on the https://tagyourmusic.org/about page, but there we use the terms “progressive” and “prog” for “progressive approach” and “prog by style”. We definitely need to make the naming more consistent.

Interesting idea regarding progressive artists!

I don't think it's really necessary to separate prog from progressive anymore. I think it is a little overly complicated. It really should just be used as a modifier. I say leave it behind. Although, I would like to see the "slightly progressive" to not be part of "not prog" anymore, and make it distinct, like it used to be. I'd also like to see the return of numerical ratings over the stars. I'm giving the album a number, not a star rating, and I just don't like it as much. |
