Coming Up: More ways to filter by tags. But which other filters would be useful to you?

I think the chart was better before the overhaul (although having multiple "folk," etc. tags were problematic). It seems a little over complex at the moment. For instance, I have no idea what "Discovery Mode" does, and it appears to do nothing. Frankly, it's a overwhelming trying figure out how to use the "Chart" feature, in its current state. Obviously, I'd like the ability to filter by all tags on the site, such as the specific subgenres, moods, themes, etc. I'll respond another time with a more in depth detailing of what I'd like to see.

Discovery Mode removes all the releases that you already know. Yes, I should add an explanatory text once discovery mode has been selected. Probably also for the different sorting options, since they have some side effects (for example, if you choose to sort by upcoming release date, with no year selected the list will start at the current day).

I like what you've got here already. It's a tough question, and seems to call for a less elegant approach where it's not just letting it be driven by the data, but you the developer having to step in with selected important criteria, like "Non-Prog/Related", or your choice of just a few highly-important tags. At the risk of overflowing the list, I'd like to see a few vocal-related filters on offer: a way to filter to only clean or only growled, and a way to look for the presence of anything indicating male or female vocals. Oh, and I guess that instrumental-only would make sense as well.

Yes, I definitely need to add more filters which involve tags. But simply making each individual tag available is pro ably not that helpful. Instead I'll need to provide intelligent filters which involve tags, like one filter "female vocals" which includes all female vocal tags, specific and generic. Instrumental on the other hand would be a single tag that makes sense as a filter. UI-wise, I'm still looking for a good way to enable the user to add filters to the query more intuitively - but I want to avoid using modals. Maybe I'll give up at some point and use modals (dialog windows) anyway ... |
