Non-Prog Retro Punk/Metal

"Although the members of Iron Lamb have their roots in old school Swedish death metal, there are absolutely no death metal elements in Iron Lamb's music. You see, Iron Lamb, while certainly incorporating a considerable amount of heavy metal into their music, is a punk rock oriented band and not a death metal band.

Most of the tracks on this album are pretty straightforward mid- to uptempo punkrockers, and the vocals, while more sung than yelled, is uncompromising, while the drums do a lot of d-beating, and the distorted bass has a very crunchy sound.

I wouldn't say that Iron Lamb is totally irrelevant to metalheads, as there are, as mentioned above, plenty of metal and hardrock elements, too. For example, tracks like "Poison", "Our Demise" and "Iron Lamb" strike me as being more on the hardrock/metal side than on the punk side and are perhaps best described as metal in punk rock packaging. Moreover, there are guitar solos in virtually every song, and often - while not shreddy - still slightly technical and sometimes even quite melodic. Another thing that should interest metalheads is that one of the main sources of inspiration appears to be Motörhead which is reflected in the overall drive of this record.

"The Original Sin" is an energetic punk-meets-metal release which should appeal to Motörhead and Discharge fans alike.
