""Evolution" by the Austrian death metal act Darkside as a type of melodic death metal release. It does not really belong to the genre of melodic death metal associated with the Gothenburg sound. Rather it is melodic in the sense that, musically, it is not as brutal as a lot of 90s death metal was, the music being more a type of hybrid between thrash metal and death metal. Moreover, the band's extensive of athsmospheric keyboards constribute a sense of gothic suspense to the music, which contains a number of very cool semi-technical riffs.
I guess that this album can be compared to Pestilence's "Testimony of the Ancients" and Nocturnus' "Thresholds", so fans of those albums might like this album, too.
