Flotsam and Jetsam

The Cold 2010

2 Melodic Non-Prog Thrash
Review by Time_Signature published
Melodic Prog-Adj Thrash

"Flotsam and Jetsam have never been afraid of flirting with melody, and their thrash/speed metal style on "The Cold" is pervaded by melody, and is leaning on being power metallish, too. Their combination of thrash/speed metal aggression and melody is certainly their forté on this album, and tracks like "Hypocrite", "Take", "Black Cloud", "Blackened Eyes", "Always" and "KYA" as well as the more power metal-like "Falling Short" are my favorites on this album.

Interestingly, in some of the quieter tracks, like "The Cold", "Secret Life", and "Better Off Dead" remind me a bit of the style that Queensrÿche plays on "American Soldier", albeit with a much heavier guitar sound and some heavier groovier riffage.

This is not a bad metal album at all - and I enjoy listening to it, but do not expect another "Doomsday for the Deceiver" or "No Place for Disgrace".
