Malastrana Italy

Attimi EP, 2010
Non-Prog Alt Hard Rock/Metal

"As far as I understand, "Attimi" is Malastrana's first release, but the guys in the band are very experienced musicians, some of whom were involved in a funk-rock band called Funky Duck... I do not know if this is true but that is what I have heard. And there are funk influences in the tunes on the EP, but not to the pint that they become as dominant as with other alternative metal acts like, and the funk element is reflected primarily in a couple of chords that are typical of funk rock and a bit of slapping bass (there is a lot of slapping bass in the title track actually). But overall, it is the hard rock element that is dominant, and Malastrana are pretty good at maintaining this funk-hard rock balance throughout the album, thus kicking out some pretty solid and hard rocking alternative metal tunes. Rage Against the Machine appears to have been a source of inspiration, and there are some pretty RATM inspired bits in 'Nell'Ombra' while the opener - after a lengthy and wordy spoken intro - features vocals that are rapped in Italian. "Attimi" is a solid, but not trailblazing, alternative metal release with some hard rocking tracks with just enough funk elements to ensure that the tunes are not just run-of-the-mill hard rockers.
