Abstract Exp Prog Avant Metal/Jazz

"One thing is for sure, the guys in Vargton Projekt are insanely talented musicians who, as the title of this album indicates, are not afraid to experiment with the sounds of metal and combine this with elements from other genres.

The typical things that characterize metal are found on this album, such as mindboggling odd time signatures, unusual song structures and showcasing of musical prowess as well as genre transgression. Thus you can expect crushingly heavy gutiars, mellow jazz rock solos, groovy riffage, funky bass figures, Latin beats, blues rock guitars, elements from non-western music, King Crimson-eqsue abstractness... and dialogue in Swedish.

The influence from jazz fusion is especially prevalent on this album, and there are actually a couple of really good jazz rock songs on the album and most tracks contain jazzy elements in one way or another. Actually, there is a lot of variation on this album, as some tracks are all out mindboggling progressive metal tracks, while others are jazz rock tunes, and others again are experimental instrumentals some of which are on the border of being soundscapes.

On top of this lies Björn Jansson's wonderful bluesy AOR-oriented voice (well, needless to say, there are a lot of extended instrumental passages) which just fits perfectly into the experimental sound of this album.

If you like to be challenged as a listener, you should check out this album - you won't regret it.
