"This album is the sole reason I persist with occasional listens to artists filed under the extreme end of metal. After a decade of what I would just call growly nonsense, Opeth's softer side came to the fore brilliantly for a spell. Influence of collaboration with Steven Wilson is pretty clear." (bartyMJ, Great, 3M ago)
"No growls makes my ears much happier. This is a magnificent album." (rushfan4, Supreme, 17y ago)

Supreme Melancholic Melodic Prog Alt Rock

"A great album which, with its lack of growls and distorted guitars, is also a very brave album from Opeth. Rather than blending death metal and progressive rock, it seems that on this album, Ã…kerfeldt is aiming for a blend of melancholic 90s-style alternative rock with progressive rock, and it works quite well."

Supreme Atmospheric Prog Rock

"I was waiting for eight years for Opeth to deliver an album without extreme metal parts, and this is it - the complete antithesis from the twin album Deliverance (their heaviest album). Most people will find it too mellow, but not me... it's simply outstanding. Fans of Anathema and Porcupine Tree should love this album too.

Highly recommended (one of the 3 albums of my collection that could pretend to a maximum rating...)"
