"Volbeat was a make-or-break project. The mixture of elements from across the board of metal with elements from classic rock 'n' roll could have gone terribly wrong. Fortunately, it didn't, and it works out quite well most of the time. The music is relatively simple, but mostly energetic, and the slightly Elvis-inspired vocals, especially in the melodic choruses, which are mostly quite melancholic melodically, work surprisingly well."
