"This was one of those extremely cheap discount deals inone of the major record stores in downtown Copenhagen. Since this EP was priced at only 5 DKR (about 1 Euro), I took a chance and bought it...
...and I must say, I was positively surprised, as this release offers melodic death metal with a touch of black metal. The first track "The Other Side" immediately blast into a black metal style fast and simple riff which builds up a tense athmosphere and also strengthens the uncertainty in terms of what to expect. Is this really a black metal release with an overly polished production? The answer is given as the track morphs into a melodic death metal track after a couple of black metal style riffs; the rest of the track morphs betwewwn black metal and melodeath style riffage, which works wuite well. "Shameful Memories" is more of a straight Gothemburg-esque melodeath track, while "Philosophies Put To Rest" makes use of riffage that is more in the vain of hard rock, or perhaps even glam metal, and combines it with melodic death metal and black metal - and, yes, it sounds like a terrible cocktail, but it actually works quite well. The final track, "Born In Flames" is the weakest track of the four, but it is not a bad song as such.
This EP should appeal to fans of melodic death metal and melodic black metal alike.
