"A midly progressive funk-rock effort by a relatively obscure band, "Electric Eel" was Fielfraz' first step out of the grunge inspired rock of the early 90s into the realm of proggy, experimental and alternative rock. While a lot of the tunes on this album are straighforward rockers, there are several quirky elements scattered all over the record. Especially the alternative use of feedback overtones and whammy bar use as a part of the main riff in "Surfer" was quite innovative at the time (this was before the succes of Rage Against The Machine). The only downside is the silly, and at times, stupidly juvenile and nonsensical lyrics."
