"This is one of those albums that show how genre boundaries are easily broken down and how different genres, or subgenres, can be integrated equally into one overall sound. What Se, Josta Ei Puhuta have done on this album is they have combined elements from melodic death metal with thrash metal and black metal elements into a sound that defies all three genres, but could still easily be captured by each of them.
From melodic death metal, "Musta, Kylmä, Syvä Ja Samea" inherits the focus on melody and the inspiration from traditional metal, while the black metal elements consist in the quality of the vocals, the use of tremolo picking, and the use of tense harmonies, and, from thrash metal, the album inherits uptempo thrash metal beats and chucky riffing. And, it works brilliantly, whether you want to call it blackened melodic death-thrash, thrashy melodic death-black or blackened melodic thrash-death.
All of the tunes on the album are pretty good, and especially the primitive energy from black-thrash which is ubiquitous on this album makes for a listening experience which is quite enjoyable. The musicianship is top notch, and I quite like the guitar solos which are not over the top but still show us that the guitarist are very skilled technically.
This album should appeal to fans of melodic death metal, thrash metal and black metal alike.
