"War and blastbeats. I think these two words pretty much sum up what this album is all about. Endstille deliver ferociously brutal black metal with dense tremolo-picked guitars and strange and sometime dissonant harmonies. Repetition and monotony characterize this album, but I think this is intended, as it adds to the already oppressive and, to quote a fellow reviewer, miserable atmosphere that the music on this album generates. This may sounds like your run-of-the-mill black metal album, and perhaps it is, but if you listen more closely, you will hear that there is a dark and strange inherent sort of melodic feel to many of the tracks - just check "Anomie", "The Deepest Place on Earth" or "When Kathaaria Falls". Also, there is some variation. For instance, the blastbeating sections are occasionally punctuated by D-beating passages, and a track like "Bloody H (The Hurt Gene)" is actually quite groovy in its own dark and evil way. Endstille deliver miserable and oppressive yet extremely brutal and aggressive black metal on this album which reeks of pain and suffering. And, as we know, that is exactly what makes good black metal. (review originally posted at metalmusicarchives.com)"
