No Gravity Italy

Review by Time_Signature published
Prog Metal

"This is not a bad album, to be sure, and certainly it is a piece of musical handicraft that the band can be proud off. This being said, I think that the music at times lacks passion, and I especially think that the vocals often seem flat (other times, the vocalist does some brilliantly intricate things, though).

We are dealing with standard progressive metal here, as pioneered by Dream Theater, which means spacey keyboards, guitar wankery, weird riffs, odd time signatures, genre boundary breakdowns, ballady interludes, compelx song structures and melodic choruses. Basically, all the good stuff. Still, No Gravity are by no means a Dream -theater clone, as they have a much heavier sound than Dream Theater, and No Gravity's music is more accessible generally.

Most of the tracks are good on this albums, although the keyboards and, as mentioned, the vocals, can be a bit distracting at times. For my money, the highlight of the album is the 10+ minutes long final tracks "Unexpected Gift" with its long instrumental sections and complex riffage.

A good progressive metal album, recommended to fans of progressive metal.
