Magtesløs Denmark

Review by Time_Signature published
Non-Prog Metalcore

"I have no problems with metalcore as such (and I do not consider metalcore false metal or anything like that - I'm too old to bother with that sort of stuff), but the heavy and more naked style that bands like Magtesløs and The Psyke Project represent has never really managed to awaken my enthusiasm. However, my own personal preferences aside, I can definitely hear that Magtesløs are on to something interesting.

There is emphasis on heaviness, and there are plenty of heavy - and groovy - metalcore breakdowns on this album. Moreover, and this is one of the interesting things, Magtesløs, while they do not focus on melody as such, make use of unusual chords which inbuilt unusual harmonies, which create as sense of twisted and haunting melody. I hope the band will keep exploring this aspect of their music in the future.

I also like how Magtesløs seem to draw a lot on 90s alternative rock and alternative metal, which is especially prevalent in tracts like "Chocolate Covered Marcipan Bar pt. 2" and "Unrealistic Reality", which, together with the more thrashy. "Lack of Conclusions" belong to my favorite tracks from this album.

So, although I am not a fan of their style, I can hear that Magtesløs are doing something quite interesting which could develop into something big amd truly unique on the metalcore scene if they play their cards right.
